Awakened Woman Self Care podcast

Oct 3, 2018

This is the first show of Season 2, and we're delighted to feature talented performer, internationally renowned Spoken Word Poet, and speaking coach—Fleassy Malay.

Fleassy is the Founder of Melbourne, Australia’s acclaimed Women’s Spoken Word event, Mother Tongue. She is a global advocate for Women’s rights and a fierce voice for the power of authenticity and connection as a social change tool.

Fleassy is a self-identified queer, erotic, spiritual, mother, with what has been described as a — theatrical and yet deeply authentic performance style. She is known for captivating her audiences with her depth, her honesty, and her humor.

In 2017 she published her book, Sex and God, has performed internationally and became the first woman to represent Australia at the National Poetry Slam, held in the United States.

Many of you may be familiar with Fleassy though her poem, filmed by UPLIFT this past March. That poem, Witches, went viral on International Women’s Day 2018 with over one million views in it’s first 3 days, at a little over 2 million and counting now.

In today's episode Fleassy shares some of her journey to create her powerful spoken word performance of Witches, which went viral. She talks about the power of sharing your voice—and the difference between staying in a comfort zone and being safe. Fleassy shares some of the work she is doing currently, working with LGBTQ youth, her continuing groundbreaking work with Mother Tongue—and her upcoming course RISE, Speaker Training.
